Spring Mission Project:
“Caring for the Homeless”
Items may be brought to the Spring meetings or dropped off at the BNoC office located at 1407 Stephanie Way, Suite F, Chesapeake.
Homelessness is a major problem in our region with every city and county addressing the issue differently. Our Spring Mission focus will be to provide much needed resources to the region’s various homeless agencies. We will partner with For Kids (Suffolk), JCOC (Virginia Beach), Lighthouse (Eastern Shore), and Union Mission (Southside). All four ministries have requested new white bath towels and bus passes/tickets.
The new towels will be used by residents in the shelters. The bus passes will provide those served with transportation to job interviews, work and places to buy personal items; meeting these needs allows volunteers the time to handle other needs.
On the Eastern Shore, bus tickets can be purchased at Star Transit for $.50 per ticket. Please call 757-787-8322 to reserve tickets in advance. You can purchase tickets with cash only, because they do not accept credit cards or checks. Lighthouse Ministries asks that you only purchase tickets; please do not purchase the punch cards.
HRT bus tickets are available at several places on the Southside. A book of five one-day passes can be purchased for $21. In Suffolk, bus tickets can be purchased at the Treasurer’s offices on Market Street or Bennett’s Creek Park Road. On the Southside, bus tickets can be purchased from most Farm Fresh stores. Please call your local store in advance to guarantee the quantity you need is in stock. Other distributors can be found at https://gohrt.com/fares/where-to-buy/.
Thank you for helping the homeless in our area.
