A Google search for “how many books on leadership have been published this year?” produced a surprising result: currently, there are more than 15,000 books on leadership in print, with 1,246 paperback books published (so far) this year with the word “leadership” in the title. The conclusion we can reach from those numbers is, people in leadership read a lot of books on leadership!
Some of those books have helped me immensely as a leader, while others have left me feeling frustrated and incapable. After 50 years of leading in God’s kingdom, I can testify to the one practice that matters most in the lives of spiritual leaders: walking daily with God.
Seeking His counsel and advice, usually given through Scriptures and often through the gentle voice of His Holy Spirit, has provided insights I never would have seen, ideas outside of my own imaginative ability, counsel when speaking to others, patience when facing difficult days and peace when my own spirit feels disrupted by trouble.
If you are leading in any capacity in Christian ministry, seek Him diligently, daily, and He will surely reward you with what you need to lead His people! (Hebrews 11:6)
